String Faculty

Alyna Bloecher - Violin

A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, Alyna grew up studying violin through the Suzuki method and other alternative music styles. Alyna is a senior at Western Kentucky University, earning her Bachelors degree in Music Education and minor in Business Entrepreneurship. She has been teaching violin and viola in various academies and privately since 2007. Alyna has performed solos with the West Valley high school and Western Kentucky University orchestras. She has also been a part of the Fairbanks YSO, Fiddle storm studios: Tetrafiddles, and played in the orchestra for the Fairbanks Opera and WKU Opera. Alyna has additionally participated in Alaska Folk festivals, Alaska and Kentucky Orchestra festivals, and received honorable mention in the Alaska All-State Alternative Music category in 2006. She has taught for the FiddleStorm studio in Fairbanks under Susie Hallinan and currently studies under Dr. ChingYi Lin at WKU.

Joshua Bloecher - Violin

A A Native of San Antonio, Texas, Josh grew up studying the violin through the Suzuki method. Josh is a senior at Western Kentucky University studying to earn a Bachelors degree in Music Education. He started teaching violin and viola in 2010. Josh has performed solos with the Graves County High School, been a part of the Paducah Youth Symphony, played for the WKU Opera, and currently plays with the WKU Symphony. Josh has also been a part of multiple chamber groups that have performed all throughout Kentucky. Josh has participated in Kentucky Orchestra festivals such as KMEA and All State. Josh currently studies with Dr. ChingYi Lin at WKU.

Chaney Rose - Violin

Chaney has played violin for 11 years and attended BGCA (‘00-‘08). She has played on stage as well as at nursing homes, private parties, contests, festivals, and around campfires. She enjoys playing both fiddle and classical styles and was a member of the Red River Fiddlers. Chaney won first place for violin at Orchestra Kentucky’s Jr. Concerto Competition in ’09 and received the Outstanding Musicianship Award at WKU’s Strings Rally in ’08.

Chaney performs in many other ways including dance, speech, and musical theatre. Homeschooled and in the 10th grade, she currently studies violin at WKU. When not practicing or performing, Chaney enjoys spending time with her church’s youth group, family, and adorable dog, Muffin.

Chaney comes from a family of Suzuki trained violinists and was taught using the Suzuki method. She hopes to instill a love and appreciation for music in her students.

Layne Guyer - Viola

Layne Guyer learned to play the violin using the Suzuki method at the age of six. She later switched to viola, which is now her primary instrument. She currently plays with the WKU Symphony.

Woodwind Faculty

Mary Boronow - Clarinet

Mary Boronow is originally from Utica, New York. She studied the clarinet at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA graduating with a B.S. in Music Education. She continued her education at the University of Texas in San Antonio studying Instrumental Conducting. Mrs. Boronow has had a varied teaching career and has taught in Alabama, California, Kentucky, Texas, Virginia, Italy, and Germany. Her teaching experience includes band, choir, orchestra, and general music classes. She has also been active in church music programs as an Adult, Children’s, and Handbell Choir Director. Mrs. Boronow is currently teaching Elementary Strings for the Bowling Green Independent School District. She served as a guest conductor for the Tennessee Valley Music Festival in 2009 – 2011. She was a guest conductor for WKU’s String Invitational in 2010 and String Explosion Summer Camp in 2011. Mrs. Boronow has performed with community bands, chamber groups, orchestras, and musical theatre groups, including the Sindelfingen Orchestra (Germany) and Twickenham Winds (Huntsville, AL). Her clarinet students have excelled and been successful in regional and state competitions.

Piano Faculty

Carlos R. Martinez - Piano

Carlos R. Martínez is from Managua Nicaragua but resides in Bowling Green KY. He has played the piano since He was a child. His experience goes from performer, teacher, and composer. He taught at the Nicaraguan Baptist Conservatory for 5 years. After 27 years of playing the piano Mr. Martínez now serves as a minister of music at Grace Community Church. Currently he is the music teacher at the Bowling Green Christian Academy.

Misty Butler - Piano

Misty is a Nationally Cerified Teacher of Music in Piano. She has taught piano approximately 10 years. She also enjoys singing, bass guitar, and writing music. She also serves as the secretary for the local Independent Music Teachers Association. Misty is from nearby Smiths Grove, KY. She has lived in BG for a few years. She assists in the Music Ministry of her church where she plays piano with the band. Her other interests are hiking, bicycle-riding, and being outdoors.
