Offertory: All Creatures of Our God and King by Brady Somerville
Brady Somerville serves at Grace Community Church in many areas, from discipleship to music. It is through the gift he has in music that he is able to bless us on Sunday’s as he plays the guitar and shares by playing offertories during the service.
We appreciate his testimony and we praise God for the gift he has afforded him with. We are blessed by it!

[Do Not Be Anxious] [25] “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? [26] Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? [27] And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? [28] And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, [29] yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. [30] But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? [31] Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ [32] For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. [33] But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. [34] “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:25-34 ESV)

My prayer for GCCBG is that we take the time to prepare our hearts for worship.
Within evangelicalism there is often a misconception about worship and music. We believe that worship is music. We often call it that. But that is not true. Music is a tool, an instrument we can use to praise our Lord and also for us to learn about our Lord. Think of music as a carpenter's hammer. A carpenter can use a hammer to build a frame for a door to a house, just as he can use a hammer to build the door to a sanctuary where worship to our Lord is going to be celebrated. Well, music is like that, you can use music as a way to entertain yourself or others, or you may use music, as a way to lift praises to our God. What is it the makes music relevant? The answer to that is: GOD, The Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ (Romans 8:3-4). Now, how do we prepared ourselves for worship? How do we accomplish that task? Is it by following certain routines, such as getting the clothes ready on Saturday, or even, making sure you have a good sleep before Sunday? That may surely help but I argue that this routine should be the outcome of what really makes us ready and why we want to be ready. There is something even more important that would surely makes us ready.
Here it is:
Romans 8:1-8 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. ESV
Verse 5:
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
So what do I mean when I say we need to prepared ourselves for worship? Don't come thinking about the music, or even other things. But come focused in the Spirit of God and that God is whom we worship and we use the gifts He has given us to offer praises to Him. Through reading, praying, listening, singing His word, and giving. We sing as a testimony of what He has done and how He reveals Himself. Romans 8:4-5
Be ready to participate in this Sunday's celebration of our Lord's day. By His grace we are given the opportunity to worship Him. How do I know that, because of the gift of His Spirit of Life. We can praise Him for that! So come and join us.
If you don't know one of these hymns, come and learn it with us! See you then.

This coming Sunday, May the 9th, at GCCBG we will be singing the hymns posted below. We will also observe the Lord’s Supper and introduce a new hymn. As we get ready to worship I would like to challenge us to really think about what worship really is and the reason we gather together. Why do we sing together? Why do we read and listen to the word of God together? Why do or should we participate?
Here are some passages to guide us answering this questions:
- Heb 10:25
- Acts 2:42
- 1 Corinth. 12:24b-25
- 2 Tim 3:16
25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
24 … But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
Read and pray on these passages. Hopefully they will encourage you and guide your heart to really be prepared as you come and worship God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit. You should want to do that. Sunday’s worship service should be something we look forward to. You should want to participate. Remember one more thing, Sunday’s worship service is not about us, it is about our Lord Christ. It should focus on what He has done, and continues to do in our lives. Let us all celebrate that.
Regarding music Martin Luther said:
….Music is a servant created and given by God.
So be ready to use this gift as an offering to our God, the giver of this and many other gifts and talents to us.
