O For A Thousand Tongues to Sing

This coming Sunday, February the 21st, we will be singing, “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing”. It is a Hymn of proclamation. It is a hymn of encouragement and also of affirmation of what our Lord has done in our lives. Imagine if we could only hear the whole body of Christ singing this verse:

“O for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The Triumphs of His grace”!!!!!

The lyrics was written by Charles Wesley; the music by Carl G Gläzer. It is a hymn that has endured the pass of time, since it was written, in 1738. Yet just imagine that day, when our Lord has returned and we can all thing together perhaps this hymn or something of this sort, “The glories of My God and King, the triumphs of His grace!” SO, come and sing this Sunday, in preparation of that day.

I hope that the inspiration that these two men shared when they wrote this hymn, is the same inspiration we have this coming Sunday as we sing.

Here are the verses:

I

O for a Thousand tongues to Sing
My great redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace.

II

Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease,
‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears,
‘Tis life and health and peace

III

He breaks the power of cancelled sin,
He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean;
His blood availed for me.

IV

My gracious Master and my God,
Assist me to proclaim,
To spread thro’ all the earth abroad,
The honors of Thy name.
